UK AI startup AI Score raises $5.4m to build the governance platform for the next generation of enterprise AI
Written by Christina Levada
AI Score, the intelligence-led AI governance platform, has raised $5.4 million in seed funding, led by Fuel Ventures, with further backing from founding investor GALLOS Technologies, as it looks to scale its technology and become a global leader in how businesses govern and deploy AI and Agentic AI with confidence.
The round has attracted investment from prominent figures from across technology, finance and national security, including Alan Morgan, co-founder of MMC Ventures and an early investor in Funding Circle and Tide; and Mo El Husseiny, Managing Partner of Ventura Capital.
The investment follows AI Score's $1 million pre-seed round in November 2025 and comes amid rapid commercial growth. The London-based company grew revenue 6.7x in the first six months of 2026, with customers spanning highly regulated and data-sensitive industries, including a Magic Circle law firm, a FTSE 250 company, a leading UK fintech and major global consumer brands.
As AI capabilities develop at unprecedented speed, traditional approaches to governance are struggling to keep pace. Recent incidents involving AI agents taking unintended actions beyond their operators' expectations, including interacting with external systems and real people, have highlighted how quickly the risk landscape is changing. As AI gains exponential autonomy, companies need greater visibility, security and oversight. AI Score is a real-time governance platform which tracks and controls Generative AI and Agentic AI use across a business, helping organisations govern AI effectively while unlocking its potential.
The seed funding will be used to accelerate development of the platform and expand AI Score's go-to-market capabilities. A key focus will be scaling Agentic AI management with AI Score’s intelligence-led governance approach. The platform oversees agents as they are introduced across the enterprise, starting with guidance, guardrails and safety nets. All the while, AI Score gives boards and management immediate visibility and control of these new AI-powered team members. This intelligence-led AI governance builds confidence in AI deployment, both protecting organisations, and progressing them towards realising the true value of their AI investments.
AI Score is led by Co-Founder and CEO Alex Harland, previously part of the founding team at the UK's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), and Co-Founder and COO Benita Tibb, a former City lawyer.
Its senior advisory team includes Co-Founder Jonathan Kewley, a leading international lawyer and AI expert; Sir Jeremy Fleming, former Director of GCHQ; Colin Bell, Chair of Starling Bank and former CEO of HSBC Bank Europe; and Nick Trim, former Co-Founder, Chief Revenue Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Darktrace.
Alex Harland, Co-Founder and CEO of AI Score, said: "AI operates at a scale and level of automation that traditional governance simply wasn't built for. Organisations need to be able to move quickly and capture the opportunity AI presents, without losing visibility or control. This investment allows us to accelerate our ambition to reinvent governance for the AI age, building intelligence directly into the process and giving organisations the confidence to win with AI."
Mark Pearson, Founder of Fuel Ventures, said: "AI Score is tackling a problem that is becoming more urgent for every organisation. Alex, Benita and the team have combined deep expertise with impressive early commercial momentum, and we believe they have the potential to build a category-leading UK technology company."
Colin Bell, Chair of Starling Bank and former CEO of HSBC Bank Europe, said: "AI is creating enormous opportunities for businesses, but leadership teams need confidence that they understand how it is being used across their organisations. AI Score is building an approach that can turn governance from a constraint into a driver of value."
The funding will support AI Score's ambition to build a globally significant AI company from the UK, drawing on the country's strengths in cybersecurity, financial services and regulated industries. As AI capabilities continue to accelerate, the company sees an opportunity for the UK to lead not only in developing AI, but in defining how it is governed and deployed across global businesses.
About AI Score
AI Score is the intelligent governance layer connecting your AI and ambitions. It exists to close the governance reality gap — the distance between the governance an organisation has designed and how its AI actually operates day to day.
AI Score was brought to life by co-founders Jonathan Kewley, Benita Tibb, and Alex Harland. After incubation by GALLOS Technologies, it launched in 2025. Its AI-powered platform gives organisations continuous visibility across their AI estate: every model, agent, assistant and application in use, the connections and permissions that link them, and the data, people and workflows around them. It uses proprietary intelligence to power effective governance and help organisations win with AI.
AI Score moves AI governance beyond static policies and periodic audits towards a continuously evolving governance layer that keeps pace with the technology itself. Its advisers include Sir Jeremy Fleming, former Director of GCHQ, and Nick Trim, co-founder of Darktrace.
The business is based from its central London office
